Public transit

The Engineering Center is a 15-20 minute walk from the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Exit to Shattuck Avenue and Center Street. Walk east on Center Street and then straight through the campus.

Car parking

There is no free parking in Berkeley. Metered street parking may be difficult to find and is limited to two hours. The Lower Hearst Parking Structure at Hearst Ave is adjacent to the North Gate and is closest to the Engineering Center. Please note that paid parking is on the 2nd floor of the Lower Hearst Parking Structure and is located on Scenic Ave. When exiting the garage, turn left and walk to the street light. You will see the North Gate across the street. Once you pass the gate, turn left and follow the path until you reach the Engineering Center (on your left). Please read all parking signs very carefully to avoid a parking ticket.

Driving directions

UC Berkeley is close to many Bay Area freeways, including I-80, I-580, I-880, Hwy 13, and Hwy 24. You can connect to these freeways from I-5 and US 101. The directions below begin when you have reached the East Bay from points north, south, and east.

  1. Exit I-80/I-580 onto University Avenue 
  2. Turn left into Oxford Street at the western edge of the campus 
  3. Turn right onto Hearst Ave
  4. Turn left at Le Conte Ave
  5. Turn left onto Scenic Ave
  6. The Lower Hearst Parking Structure will be on your left
  1. Exit Highway 24 at exit 5B to merge onto CA-13 N Berkeley
  2. Turn right onto Claremont Ave
  3. Immediately turn left onto Claremont Blvd
  4. Turn left onto Derby St 
  5. Turn right onto Warring St 
  6. Slight left onto Piedmont Crescent 
  7. At the traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Piedmont Ave
  8. Turn left onto Hearst Ave
  9. Turn right onto Scenic Ave, The Lower Hearst Parking Structure entrance will be on your right
  1. Take the Highway 24 E exit toward Berkeley/Walnut Creek
  2. Exit Highway 24 at exit 5B to merge onto CA-13 N Berkeley
  3. Turn right onto Claremont Ave
  4. Immediately turn left onto Claremont Blvd
  5. Turn left onto Derby St 
  6. Turn right onto Warring St 
  7. Slight left onto Piedmont Crescent 
  8. At the traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Piedmont Ave
  9. Turn left onto Hearst Ave
  10. Turn right onto Scenic Ave, The Lower Hearst Parking Structure entrance will be on your right
